Tug of war over Khayelitsha. This was in the year 1995.
The drawing of new municipal boundaries caused a raging political battle around who will take responsibility for Khayelitsha, since the ANC wants the township to be incorporated into a new Tygerberg municipality and the NP is fighting to keep it out.
Here are some other proposals changing the boundaries around Khayelitsha and proposals for both the Tygerberg and Eastern municipalities.

New Tiger of the North
Clifford Sitonga, an ANC proportional representative from Khayelitsha, was selected as the city’s first citizen by the council yesterday.
He is the first black mayor of the Tygerberg.
Sitonga and his wife, Nokaanda, have four children.
“I haven’t told my wife yet that she is to be the mayoress,” Sitonga laughed.
“And as she is a shy lady, I think I’m going to be in trouble,” he added with a wide grin.
